Obverse description Within a recessed rectangular relief panel, a laureate nude heroic male figure (Prometheus or Hercules) is depicted in three-quarter rear view, seated and leaning against a rocky ledge from which rays of light emanate, symbolising the harnessing of energy; a panoramic city skyline with multiple church towers and domed buildings fills the background, with a small base relief scene at lower left. The dates 1855 and 1905 appear in the outer frame to the left and right respectively. Below the inner panel, a two-line legend reads: ZUR ERINNERUNG AN DAS 50 JÄHRIGE BESTEHEN / DER DEUTSCHEN CONTINENTAL-GAS-GESELLSCHAFT.
