The Bank of Shansi, Chahar & Hopei — commonly called the Jin-Cha-Ji Bank after the Chinese abbreviations of the three provinces — was the financial arm of one of the Communist Party's most strategically vital base areas during the civil war against the Nationalists. This 1947 issue came at a period of rapid inflation and escalating military expenditure, when denomination values were climbing fast to keep pace with collapsing purchasing power across the liberated zones.

Jin-Cha-Ji currency was printed under wartime conditions, often on coarse regional paper with variable ink quality, and the series shows considerable production inconsistency across surviving examples. The bank itself was dissolved in 1948 when its note-issuing functions were absorbed into the newly consolidated People's Bank of China.
