Reverse description The upper portion of the reverse displays the Nagano 1998 Winter Olympic Games emblem, consisting of horizontal parallel lines overlaid with the inscription '1998' and 'NAGANO' in Latin characters, accompanied by a stylized floral motif to the left and the five-ring Olympic symbol below. A naturalistic right-facing effigy of a Japanese serow (Capricornis crispus), the indigenous goat-antelope native to Japan, occupies the right-center field in high relief. To the lower left, the denomination '5000 YEN' is inscribed in Latin characters above the Japanese era date '平成9年' (Year 9 of Heisei). The design is enclosed by a beaded border.
