Obverse description Central field features the State Emblem of Kazakhstan — a shanyrak (the crown of a yurt) with sun rays radiating outward, flanked by mythical winged horses — set within a raised circular border decorated with a stylized ornamental star pattern. The curved Cyrillic legend ҚАЗАҚСТАН ҰЛТТЫҚ БАНКІ (National Bank of Kazakhstan) arcs around the upper field, while the large denomination 5000 ТЕҢГЕ appears prominently in the lower field. Fineness and weight designations '1 kg.' and 'Ag 925' are inscribed in the lower left portion of the field. The coin's mirror-like proof surfaces provide strong contrast against the frosted relief elements.

Additional information

Kazakhstan declared independence on December 16, 1991, following the dissolution of the Soviet Union — one of the last Soviet republics to do so. This issue marks the tenth anniversary of that declaration. At one kilogram of sterling silver and 100mm across, it belongs to a category of coins produced less for any monetary function than as prestige objects and diplomatic gifts, a format Kazakhstan pursued aggressively in its early decades as it sought international recognition and projected institutional confidence through its central bank.
