| Additional information |
Uganda's wildlife coinage program of the early 2000s was part of a broader trend among African central banks licensing coin production to European minting houses — in this case almost certainly struck by a European contractor rather than on Ugandan soil, as the Bank of Uganda has never operated a functioning mint. The .850 silver fineness is notably below the standard .925 used by most commemorative programs of the period, a cost-reduction choice that occasionally affects long-term surface stability in improperly stored examples.
