Additional information

Matthew Flinders completed the first circumnavigation of Australia between 1801 and 1803 aboard HMS Investigator, and it was Flinders himself who proposed the name "Australia" to replace the older designation "Terra Australis." Uganda's connection to the man is nonexistent — this is a purely commercial commemorative issue produced for the collector market, a practice the Bank of Uganda pursued aggressively in the early 2000s by licensing its name to third-party minting programs with no domestic relevance whatsoever.
