| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Uganda occupies the central field, depicting a traditional Kiganda shield decorated with a sun motif, flanked by a Uganda Kob (Kobus kob thomasi) to the left and a Grey Crowned Crane (Balearica regulorum) to the right, both standing on a grassy base with crossed spears behind the shield. A scrolled ribbon at the base bears the national motto. The legend BANK OF UGANDA arcs along the upper periphery, with the date 2002 divided across the field on either side of the arms, and the denomination 5000 SHILLINGS inscribed along the lower rim. |
