Obverse description The obverse features the coat of arms of Uganda centrally positioned in the field, depicting a kob antelope and a grey crowned crane flanking a shield charged with a sun, with a representation of the River Nile in base, all above a scroll bearing the national motto FOR GOD AND MY COUNTRY. The date 2002 is divided and flanks the arms at left and right, while the legend BANK OF UGANDA arcs along the upper periphery and 5000 SHILLINGS runs along the lower periphery.

Uganda's wildlife coin program of the early 2000s was aimed squarely at the collector export market, with the Bank of Uganda licensing designs for international distribution rather than domestic circulation. These pieces never traded as currency within Uganda itself.

The .850 fineness is worth noting — slightly below the .925 standard common to most modern commemorative silver, a specification choice that kept production costs down without meaningfully affecting the coin's market positioning.
