| Obverse description | The obverse is set within an ornate guilloche border with foliate corner pieces. The central denomination numeral '5000' is rendered in large bold letterpress type, flanked by the Cyrillic inscription ПЯТЬ ТЫСЯЧ РУБЛЕЙ below and the heading ВРЕМЕННЫЙ КРЕДИТНЫЙ БИЛЕТ ТУРКЕСТАНСКОГО КРАЯ above. Arabic-script denomination numerals appear in the upper corners and at the base, alongside the date 1920. Serial number and series designator appear at upper left and lower right. The Turkestan Krai government issued this note during the Russian Civil War, when Soviet authority in Central Asia was contested and fragile. The region had been cut off from central Bolshevik supply lines by the Orenburg Cossack blockade between 1917 and 1919, forcing local administrations to print their own currency simply to function. By 1920 the Red Army had broken through, but the monetary chaos of the preceding years had already produced a proliferation of competing local issues across Turkestan.
S1174 belongs to a late series printed under Soviet-aligned but still regionally autonomous authority — the distinction between "Soviet" and "Krai government" issues from this period is frequently blurred in the literature.
