The Siberian Provisional Government's treasury notes of 1918 emerged from a remarkably fractured political situation — by mid-year, at least four competing anti-Bolshevik administrations were issuing paper in the region simultaneously, and the "First Siberian" designation in the series name distinguishes this authority specifically from the short-lived successor bodies that followed Kolchak's consolidation of power in November 1918. These high-denomination notes circulated in an economy already saturated with Kerensky rubles, Romanov-era issues, and locally printed scrip, which drove rapid inflation and meant large denominations were immediately necessary rather than exceptional.
Forgeries of this series are documented — not uncommon given how little central enforcement was possible across Siberian territory in wartime.
