Obverse description Bare head of Emperor Pedro II facing left, with finely detailed hair, occupying the central field. The surrounding legend reads PETRUS II.D.G.C.IMP. ET PERP.BRAS.DEF. in raised Latin characters, distributed along the upper and lower periphery. The date appears below the effigy. The portrait is rendered in a neoclassical style consistent with mid-nineteenth-century Brazilian imperial coinage.
