Obverse description Bare-headed bust of King Luiz I facing left, rendered in high relief with naturalistic detail in the hair and moustache. The effigy is set against a smooth field and surrounded by a beaded inner border. The circular legend reads LUDOVICUS·I·PORTUG: ET·ALGARB: REX, referencing the king's titles as ruler of Portugal and the Algarves. The date 1888 appears in the lower exergual area beneath the portrait. The overall style reflects the academic neoclassical engraving tradition of the Lisbon Mint.
