The 1890 date places this note squarely in the most turbulent financial year in late nineteenth-century Portugal. The Banco de Portugal was under severe strain — the government's fiscal crisis that year forced the bank into extraordinary measures, including emergency note issues and a suspension of convertibility that would not be fully resolved for years. The "2nd. print" designation matters here: it reflects a repeat print run ordered under duress, not a routine replenishment.

Pick 69 is underrepresented in major collections, partly because Portuguese provincial hoarding patterns were erratic during the crisis period and survival rates across print runs differ noticeably.
