Obverse description Blue on light underprint. Central oval vignette contains an intaglio portrait of Manuel A. Tocornal in three-quarter view, framed by guilloche scrollwork. The denomination appears in bold letterpress as "CINCO MIL PESOS" at lower center, with "QUINIENTOS CONDORES" at lower left and the convertibility clause at lower right; two printed serial numbers and two manuscript signatures appear below the portrait, with the date 2-X-1940 at bottom center.

(Translation: Central Bank of Chile Five Hundred Condores Five Thousand Pesos Convertible into Gold in Conformity with the Law)
Reverse description Blue. A large central vignette reproduces a painting of the Battle of Rancagua, with combatants in vigorous action filling the composition; the circular bank seal is printed at left. The denomination "CINCO MIL PESOS" appears in bold lettering at the base of the central panel, with "5 MIL" repeated in the four corners as guilloche numerals.
