Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of King Juan Carlos I facing left, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and strong facial features. The portrait occupies the majority of the field in a commanding, naturalistic style. The circular legend reads JUAN CARLOS I REY DE ESPAÑA around the upper periphery, with the date 1995 flanked by two small dots at the bottom of the field.

The crowned M mint mark of the Madrid Royal Mint appears in the upper field above the animal. The legend CULTURA Y NATURALEZA arcs around the left and upper periphery, with the denomination 5000 PTAS inscribed in two lines at the base of the field, flanked by two small dots.
