| Obverse description | The crowned Royal Arms of Spain occupies the central field, rendered in fine detail with the quartered shield displaying the castles of Castile, lions of León, the chains of Navarre, and the pale of Aragon, with the Pillars of Hercules bearing the motto PLUS ULTRA on either side. A royal crown surmounts the shield. The circular legend JUAN CARLOS I REY DE ESPAÑA runs along the upper periphery, separated from the inner design by a beaded border. The date 1989 appears in the lower field, flanked by small rosette ornaments, all within a beaded inner circle. |
