Comments

Angola's currency in the 1980s was in chronic disarray, hammered by civil war expenditure and collapsed oil revenues. The novo kwanza, introduced in 1977, depreciated so rapidly that overprinting existing stock became a practical necessity rather than a planned policy — this 5000 denomination on earlier substrate is a direct product of that fiscal pressure.

Pick 125 is scarce in genuinely circulated condition. The overprint ink is known to show offset transfer onto adjacent notes when stored in bundles, a contact flaw found with some regularity on this issue.
