Obverse descriptionRed, blue, and brown. Portrait of J. V. Snellman (1806-1881). Finnish statesman and nationalist. Finance Minister at the time of the introduction of the Markka in 1860.  Large 5000 in centre, with denomination in words in Finnish and Swedish below it, with Series year, 1939, directly underneath.  Two signatures in bottom centre.
Reverse descriptionBlue and brown. Coat of arms of Finland in centre, Finnish Lion holding a straight sword trampling a curved sword underfoot.  Denomination in numerals in four corners of design. Denomination in words at either side.
