Moll-Werke Aktiengesellschaft was a Chemnitz-based industrial firm that, like hundreds of German manufacturers and municipalities in 1923, resorted to issuing its own emergency currency — Notgeld — when the Reichsbank could no longer keep pace with hyperinflation's demand for physical banknotes. These factory-issued notes were typically redeemable only at the company's own payroll window, making them instruments of wage payment rather than general commerce.

The watermarked paper is worth noting; most late-stage 1923 Notgeld dispensed with security features entirely as pointless against an inflation that rendered denominations obsolete within days of printing.
