| Obverse description | At right, an intaglio portrait of Sengbe Pieh (c. 1813–1879), the Mende leader renowned for leading the Amistad revolt, is set against a violet and blue guilloche underprint. To the centre-left, a vignette of a historic colonial-era building appears beneath the Bank of Sierra Leone coat of arms, with two signature lines for the Governor and Deputy Governor positioned above the date.
