Obverse description At right, an intaglio portrait of Sengbe Pieh (c. 1813–1879), the Mende leader renowned for leading the Amistad revolt, is set against a violet and blue guilloche underprint. To the centre-left, a vignette of a historic colonial-era building appears beneath the Bank of Sierra Leone coat of arms, with two signature lines for the Governor and Deputy Governor positioned above the date. The denomination 5000 is rendered in large numerals at lower left and lower right, with the issuer legend extending across the top margin and the promise-to-pay inscription along the lower margin.
