Obverse description Struck on a flan shaped in the geographic outline of Zambia, the obverse features the fourth-effigy right-facing draped bust of Queen Elizabeth II after Ian Rank-Broadley, positioned in the lower portion of the field with the legend BANK OF ZAMBIA OLYMPICS 2000 5000 KWACHA surrounding. The national arms of Zambia appear to the right of the portrait, while a detailed depiction of the Sydney Opera House occupies the upper field, referencing the host city of the 2000 Summer Games. The composition integrates multiple design elements across the irregular shaped flan in a balanced arrangement characteristic of commemorative issues of this period.

Additional information

Zambia's commemorative output around the turn of the millennium was prolific to the point of embarrassment — the Bank of Zambia issued dozens of silver pieces targeting the collector market rather than domestic circulation, many through foreign minting agencies. This piece is one of them. It had no meaningful relationship to Zambian economic life and was never intended to.

KM#115 is part of a broader Sydney Olympics licensing wave that saw small and economically distressed nations monetize their minting rights.
