Cameroon's numismatic program has, since roughly the 2010s, operated almost entirely as a vehicle for European bullion dealers and mint contractors — most pieces in this vein are produced under license by mints in Poland or the Czech Republic and bear no meaningful relationship to Cameroon's monetary system or economic life. The "Purgatory" issue belongs to a sprawling themed series on afterlife cosmology, aimed squarely at the collector market.
No 5000-franc coin of this size has ever circulated in Cameroon. The CFA franc zone's highest circulating denomination is 500 francs.
