Additional information

Chad gained independence from France on August 11, 1960, but the commemorative gold issues marking that event were produced years later — a common pattern among newly sovereign Francophone African states that lacked domestic minting infrastructure and depended on the Paris Mint to produce prestige coinage on delayed schedules. The 1970 date reflects the tenth anniversary series rather than a coin struck in the year of independence itself.

Mintages for these anniversary issues were small and largely absorbed by collectors and foreign investors rather than circulating domestically.
