Obverse description Multicolour intaglio note with a portrait vignette of General Victor Schoelcher positioned at centre right, rendered in the engraved style characteristic of French colonial issues. The note bears a MARTINIQUE overprint in the margins, applied to the base P#27 issue originally prepared for French Equatorial Africa. The denomination 5000 appears in large numerals at left, with the issuing authority legend arcing across the upper margin.
Obverse lettering 5000 CAISSE CENTRALE DE LA FRANCE D'OUTRE-MER MARTINIQUE CINQ MILLE FRANCS R. POUGHEON FEC. J. PIEL - A.MARLIAT SC.
(Translation: Central Fund of Overseas France Martinique Five Thousand Francs)
Reverse description Multicolour intaglio composition centred on a vignette of a native family group, engraved by André Marliat in the detailed pictorial style typical of mid-century French colonial currency. The MARTINIQUE territorial overprint appears in the margins, consistent with the overprinting programme applied to the base P#27 stock from French Equatorial Africa. The penal code warning legend and denomination numerals flank the central vignette.
