Reverse description Left-facing portrait bust of Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, rendered in fine relief after the manner of Renaissance portraiture. His name is inscribed in Latin to the left of the effigy. The year of his birth, 1500, appears in the upper field, while the year of his death, 1558, along with the designer's initials, is placed in the lower field. The composition is restrained and heraldic in character, evoking the imperial dignity of the subject.
