The Ivory Coast has no independent monetary authority — it issues no circulating coinage of its own, operating instead through the BCEAO within the West African CFA franc zone. These 5000 CFA franc pieces are struck under licensing arrangements and intended entirely for the collector market, never touching domestic circulation. Equatorial and West African CFA francs are nominally equivalent but not interchangeable by regulation, a quirk that occasionally trips up the catalog.
