Additional information

Burkina Faso's monetary authority has issued collector silver under the CFA franc system since the early 2000s, despite the country having no independent mint — these pieces are struck under contract in Europe, almost certainly in Poland or the Czech Republic, where the majority of African novelty bullion of this type originates. The mammoth series targets the international collector and gift market rather than any domestic circulation, and KM#44 is among the heavier issues in that run.

The woolly mammoth disappeared from mainland Eurasia roughly 10,000 years ago, with an isolated dwarf population surviving on Wrangel Island until approximately 1650 BC.
