| Obverse description | The obverse displays the national coat of arms of the Republic of Benin in high relief at centre, featuring a quartered shield with a castle and Order of the Star of Benin cross in the upper quarters, and a palm tree and sailing ship in the lower quarters, supported by two leopards rampant on either side, and surmounted by a buffalo head. A scrolled ribbon beneath the shield bears the national motto FRATERNITE JUSTICE TRAVAIL. The legend REPUBLIQUE DU BENIN arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 5000 FRANCS CFA is inscribed in large characters across the lower field. |
