Benin has no domestic mint and contracts all its coinage to European private minting houses — this piece was almost certainly produced by the Polish Mint in Warsaw, which has struck the majority of Benin's collectible issues since the early 2010s under licensing arrangements with the Pobjoy and later other distributors. These are fiscal instruments in name only; Benin's actual circulating currency is the West African CFA franc, issued collectively by the BCEAO on behalf of eight member states, meaning a 5000 CFA denomination struck in 155 grams of fine silver was never intended to move through any West African market.
