| Reverse description | Central motif features a group of three Bakota reliquary guardian figures (mbulu ngulu), with the principal figure prominently displayed at center bearing a large domed headdress and stylized facial features, flanked by two subsidiary figures. The national arms of Gabon appear at the top of the field above the reliquary group, featuring the shield supported by two panthers with a ship in base. Decorative fluted column elements with scrolled terminals frame the design on either side. The denomination 5000 FRANCS is inscribed in a curved legend along the lower periphery, with FRANCS repeated on either side of the numeral. |

| Additional information |
This coin was issued to commemorate the first anniversary of Omar Bongo's presidency, following his assumption of power after the death of Léon M'ba in November 1967. Bongo, who was just 32 at the time of his inauguration, would go on to rule Gabon for over four decades — one of the longest presidential tenures in African history. The issue was part of a broader series of commemorative gold coins released by Gabon in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely aimed at the international collector market rather than domestic circulation.
