The Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale served six member states of the BEAC zone under a shared currency framework, and the Central African Republic's 1984 issues were produced during a particularly unstable period in the country — Jean-Bédel Bokassa had been removed in 1979 after the school uniform massacre, and the reinstated Dacko government had itself been overthrown by General Kolingba in 1981. Two signature combinations exist for P#12, reflecting successive governors and finance ministers through the mid-1980s.
