The Institut d'Émission Malgache was Madagascar's transitional issuing authority between independence in 1960 and the establishment of the Banque Centrale de la République Malgache — a brief institutional window that produced only a handful of series. This note carries the Tsiranana designation, referencing Philibert Tsiranana, the country's first president, whose government maintained close monetary and diplomatic ties with France throughout the 1960s.

Pierrette Lambert's engraving credit is notable — she was one of very few women working as an intaglio engraver at the Banque de France during this period, responsible for some of the finer portrait and vignette work across multiple francophone African issues of the era.
