| Obverse description | Deep olive-green and brown-violet on multicoloured underprint, with an intaglio portrait of navigator and Viceroy of India Vasco da Gama (1469–1524) at right, based on the painting held in the Museu de Arte Antiga. An armillary sphere fills the central background, while a medallion bearing the Cruz de Malta appears at upper centre. The note is identified as Chapa 3 and exists with six signature varieties. |
