| Obverse description | At centre-right, an intaglio portrait of the celebrated Brazilian painter Cândido Torquato Portinari (1903–1962) is rendered with fine line engraving. To the left, a vignette reproduces a section of his monumental epic panel Tiradentes, completed in 1949, executed in a painterly style characteristic of Portinari's social realist work.
