Additional information

Poland issued commemorative coinage for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics despite the country's participation being rendered politically impossible — the Soviet-led boycott, announced in May 1984, pulled the Polish Olympic Committee along with it. This trial strike in nickel represents the production-testing phase for a coin honoring Games that Polish athletes would never attend.

Trial pieces for Polish commemoratives of this period were produced in small numbers for internal mint approval and are rarely documented in collector hands with any precision.
