| Obverse description | Central field features the Polish State Eagle — the crowned white eagle with wings displayed, talons clutching, rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field — as engraved by Stanisława Wątróbska-Frindt. The date 1988 is divided by the eagle's legs, with 19 to the left and 88 to the right. Below the eagle, the denomination ZŁ 500 ZŁ is inscribed in large numerals with the złoty abbreviation flanking either side. The circular legend POLSKA RZECZPOSPOLITA LUDOWA (Polish People's Republic) runs along the upper periphery in Latin characters. |
