| Reverse description | The reverse presents a sensitively modelled bust of Pope John Paul II in three-quarter facing view, dressed in papal vestments with ornate embroidery visible at the collar and shoulders. A stylised halo arc is depicted behind his head, reinforcing his saintly status. To the left of his effigy, a curved abstract motif — echoing the design element on the obverse — extends across the field. The legend 'KANONIZACJA JANA PAWŁA II' is inscribed along the upper arc of the coin, while the date '27 IV 2014' appears vertically along the right inner border, commemorating the date of his canonisation in Vatican City. |

John Paul II was canonised on 27 April 2014 alongside John XXIII, in a ceremony presided over by Pope Francis with Benedict XVI present — the first time in modern history that a reigning pope and his living predecessor shared a canonisation Mass. The Polish state's investment in commemorating the event was considerable; this kilogram piece sits at the top of a three-coin program NBP issued for the occasion, ranging from a standard silver crown down to this substantial collector's issue.
At 100mm and a full kilogram of .999 silver, production runs for pieces of this specification are tightly constrained by minting capacity and handling requirements at the Mennica Polska facility in Warsaw.
