Obverse description The obverse depicts the Imperial State Carriage (gosho-guruma), a Western-style open landau carriage used during official Imperial ceremonies, rendered in fine detail at centre field. The carriage is shown in three-quarter view with spoked wheels, ornate scroll-work bodywork, and coach lamps, conveying the prestige of the Imperial household. Above the carriage, a decorative foliate garland incorporating paulownia and cherry blossom motifs frames the design. The entire composition is encircled by a beaded inner border, with the bimetallic ring forming the outer boundary of the coin.
