Obverse description The obverse depicts the iconic Oura Cathedral (Urakami Cathedral) in the lower left field, rendered in fine relief with its characteristic Gothic spire and lancet windows. To the right, a large decorative rose window with elaborate tracery motifs occupies the upper field, evoking the stained glass heritage of Nagasaki's Catholic architectural tradition. The legend 日本国 (State of Japan) is inscribed along the upper periphery in kanji characters, flanked by a beaded border, while NAGASAKI in Latin script and 長崎県 in kanji appear in the central right field. The denomination 五百円 (500 yen) is inscribed along the lower arc, completing the design within a finely beaded rim.
