| Obverse description | The central field depicts a scenic view of the Kumano Kodō Iseji, the ancient stone-paved pilgrimage route leading through Mie Prefecture, rendered in fine relief with tall cedar trees flanking the path and a receding stone-cobbled road extending into the background. The design captures the UNESCO World Heritage landscape in a detailed, naturalistic style. The kanji legend 日 本 国 (State of Japan) arcs across the upper portion of the field, while 三重県 (Mie Prefecture) and the Latin inscription MIE appear to the left, and the denomination 五 百 円 (500 yen) is inscribed along the lower arc. A beaded border frames the entire composition. |
