Reverse description Central device depicts a stylized representation of an old cast mon coin, featuring a square central hole with fine horizontal line detailing, surrounded by the kanji characters 地, 方, 自, 治 (meaning 'local autonomy') arranged in the four cardinal positions around the square perforation, all rendered within a raised circular frame. The program inscription JAPAN 47 PREFECTURES COIN PROGRAM arcs around the upper periphery within the nickel brass ring, separated by dot stops. The denomination 500 YEN appears at lower left and the Japanese date 平成 24 年 (Year 24 of Heisei, i.e. 2012) at lower right, with the issue sequence number 47/60 incorporated into the reverse design. The entire composition is enclosed by a beaded border.
