Obverse description The nickel brass outer ring frames a detailed panoramic view of the Sanuki Plain as seen from Kotohira-gu Shrine, with the shrine's distinctive pagoda structures depicted prominently in the upper left field against a large circular sun motif. The rolling hills of the Sanuki Plain extend across the middle ground, with the Seto Inland Sea and the Great Seto Bridge rendered in fine relief along the lower portion of the inner copper-nickel centre. The Latin legend KAGAWA appears in the upper centre of the inner disc, flanked by the Japanese characters 香川県, while the issuer legend 日 本 国 is inscribed along the upper border of the outer ring. The denomination 五 百 円 is inscribed in Japanese characters along the lower border of the outer ring, with a beaded border encircling the entire design.

Reverse description The copper-nickel centre features a stylised representation of a traditional Japanese cast Mon coin, incorporating a square central hole and rendered with latent image security elements visible at certain viewing angles. The four Japanese characters 地、方、自、治 (meaning 'local autonomy') are arranged around the square hole in the four cardinal positions, evoking the layout of classic Edo-period coinage. The nickel brass outer ring bears the circumferential Latin legend JAPAN 47 PREFECTURES COIN PROGRAM along the upper arc, with the denomination 500 YEN and the Japanese date inscription 平成 26 年 (Year 26 of Heisei) distributed along the lower arc. A beaded border runs along the inner and outer edges of the ring, and the issue sequence indicator (47/60) is incorporated within the design.
