Reverse description The reverse centre, struck in copper-nickel, depicts a stylised representation of an old Japanese cast Mon coin featuring a square central hole, rendered with latent image security elements visible at oblique angles. The characters 地方自治 (local autonomy) are distributed around the square aperture within the central disc. The nickel brass outer ring carries the legend JAPAN 47 PREFECTURES COIN PROGRAM arching across the upper field, with the denomination 500 YEN at lower left and the Japanese era date 平成26年 (Heisei year 26) at lower right, all within a beaded border.
