Obverse description Central field features a dynamic depiction of an acrobatic freestyle skier in mid-jump, rendered in high relief, holding ski poles crossed before the body with skis splayed outward against a stylized snowflake-patterned background. The Olympic rings appear prominently in the upper portion of the field above the athlete. The Japanese legend 日本国 (State of Japan) is inscribed along the upper arc, divided at left and right by the design elements, while 五百円 (500 Yen) is positioned along the lower arc. The coin is bordered by a continuous ring of beads.
