| Obverse description | Central field features a bold relief depiction of a standing rifle shooter in competition gear, aiming a scoped rifle to the right. The denomination '오백원' (Five Hundred Won) appears in the upper right field in Hangul script, followed below by the event legend '제42회 세계사격선수권대회' (42nd World Shooting Championships) and the issuer inscription '대한민국' (Republic of Korea) along the lower field. The design is rendered in a vigorous, medallic style with strong sculptural relief. |

| Additional information |
South Korea hosted the 42nd World Shooting Championships in Seoul in 1978, one of the country's earliest major international sporting events and a deliberate exercise in projecting national prestige during the Park Chung-hee government. The coin was issued specifically to commemorate the occasion — South Korea's numismatic commemorative program was still in its infancy, and this ranks among the earliest issues of that type from the Bank of Korea.
