Obverse description The national coat of arms of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea occupies the central field, depicting a hydroelectric power station beneath a radiant star, framed by sheaves of rice and a ribbon at the base. An open stylized laurel wreath is displayed in the lower portion of the field, with branches extending symmetrically from a central floral ornament. The circular legend in Hangul script reads 'Central Bank of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea' along the upper periphery. The fineness '999' and weight '27g' are inscribed in the lower field to either side of the coat of arms, with the date '1996' prominently placed in the exergue.
