| Obverse description | The national arms of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea are depicted in the centre of the field, comprising an oval shield showing a hydroelectric dam and electricity pylon, surmounted by a five-pointed star radiating rays, and flanked by sheaves of rice bound with a ribbon at the base. The Korean legend 조선민주주의인민공화국중앙은행 (Central Bank of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea) curves around the upper periphery in Hangul script. To the lower left of the arms appears the purity designation 순도 999, and to the lower right the weight 27 g, both in the field. The legend D.P.R. OF KOREA appears in raised Latin letters along the lower field, with the date 1988 inscribed below. |
