| Reverse description | A seated monkey is portrayed in fine detail at the center of a raised circular pearl border, shown in profile perched upon a branch. The surrounding field features an ornate decorative border composed of stylized scrollwork and scampering monkeys in various playful poses, referencing the Chinese lunar zodiac Year of the Monkey. Mongolian traditional script lettering appears above the central monkey motif within the inner field. |

| Additional information |
Part of a long-running Mongolian lunar series aimed squarely at the international bullion and collector market, this piece contains approximately 1/40 troy ounce of fine gold — a fractional denomination with no practical domestic circulation use. The Bank of Mongolia issued numerous such coins through the early 2000s, many struck by foreign mints under contract rather than at any facility within Mongolia itself.
