Additional information

Mongolia's wild horse coinage draws on the country's long association with the Przewalski's horse — a species that went extinct in the wild by the 1960s and was only reintroduced to Mongolian steppe through captive breeding programs beginning in the 1990s. This fractional gold issue belongs to a series the Bank of Mongolia used to tap the international bullion gift market, where sub-gram denominations in .9999 fineness became commercially viable largely through Swiss and Chinese packaging and distribution networks in the 2000s and 2010s.
