Mongolia began issuing commemorative silver programs in the early 2000s targeting the collector market, and this piece — struck 36 years after the Grenoble Games — belongs squarely to that export-oriented series rather than any domestic circulation context. The 1968 Winter Olympics were held in the French Alps in February of that year, the first Games to use computerized timing and the first to feature a purpose-built athletes' village.
